In Commemoration of our 50th Wedding Anniversary June 30 ,1961. A poem I wrote in 1981… 30 years later. entitled “Marriage”
Marriage, what is marriage
Marriage is love, but what is love? Truly love is why we marry, or is marriage convenient?
No! Marriage is love, Marriage is understanding,Marriage is companionship after the children have grown! Marriage is heartache and pain. Marriage compassion and sensitivity. Marriage is being late for supper and waiting …endless waiting! Marriage is running out of patience and being angry enough to Kill!
Marriage is fighting and arguing and getting it all out… getting the hurt out, the anger and disappointment of a well planned evening out, to clear the air between two lovers…yet sometimes strangers.
To be ones self at times is at times impossible. Quiet times, silent times, cherished times ,time to think about each other; our lives together; our lives not together. Time to think of little things; to be individual and yourself, time to fantasize , to dream, and to enjoy.
Marriage is laughing late at night just before sleep comes, acting crazy and enjoying each other, Marriage is crying: after an argument or disappointment of a planned event that does not occur; about little things that at the time seem so important and mean so much.Marriage is jealously and loneliness, two emotions that are hard to deal with: emotions which cause us to ask…Can I go on like this? Is it worth it?
Love again takes over! There has to be love and respect…Love will override all emotions!
So then …Marriage is love and love IS marriage!
